We finally were able to leave on our epic summer vacation today!! We left today at 5:45 am to get on the road. We actually had a great driving day - the traffic was rather light, luckily. The cats did much better than I had feared as well. Kora cried and tried to break out of her carrier for the first few hours, but then I covered her carrier with my cardigan so she could only see out the front and a tiny bit out the side so she could see me and after that she calmed down. All in all, it took us about 12 hours from the time we left our house to the moment we were completely settled in our camp in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I will post more about our time here later. For now, here are some pictures from our first day on our trip!
The jackass driving this Penske was our archenemy for quite awhile. They kept passing us, but then slowed way down on the hills, making us have to pass them.
Jason's reaction to the Penske driver
The set up for the kitties in the backseat. Dexter had the bigger carrier so that he could stand up and stretch, which is good for his arthritic hips. Kora is in the carrier that is basically covered with my grey cardigan. She liked the "cave" and not being able to see out the side windows. Hopefully they will continue to do well!
I got to work on a knitting project while we drove down the freeway

I will post more about our campsite and New Mexico later!!
Glad you are back on schedule and that you kept your humor through the rough start. You guys look like you are having a great time!
