Well, if you read my previous post you know that we had troubles with the truck just as we basically got going. We had hoped from what we had read on the internet that it would be a basic and easy fix, but unfortunately, that was not the case. In fact, the dealership has no idea what is wrong with the truck. They have done several diagnostic tests and had multiple phone calls with GM to try and figure it out. They are pretty sure it has something to do with the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter). So, since we had already sat there for 4 hours (with two crabby kitties), they decided to just send us home. They gave us a loaner car, we loaded up the cats and our case of wine, checked on the fiver at Walmart, and headed home. So now we are home cancelling our reservations when instead, at this moment, we should be completely set up at our campsite in Texas and out exploring or hiking.
The dealership really has no estimate on how long this will take. They have to figure out what is wrong with it first, and then figure out what they need to do to fix it. So that means we might get a call today saying it is fixed, or it might take weeks. If we can get it back within in the next few days, we can probably figure out how to get ourselves caught back up with our schedule. But, if it is going to take multiple days/weeks, then we are going to have to radically alter our careful plans that we have spent months on (and money!).
The good news is that we had this happen where we did, where we could just get right off the freeway, park the fiver in a good location, and be within a mile or two of a GMC dealership AND that the people in the service department were willing to look at it right away. I can't even imagine what it would be like if we had broken down in the middle of nowhere. It definitely could be worse, but I am truly in shock at this - we have been planning and dreaming for years and to have it be possibly taken away because of a problem on a brand new truck - a truck that has only 3,000 miles on it, is hard to comprehend.
I will keep you up to date on our plans as we find out the status on our truck. But right now, if you were planning on seeing us as we came through, you should rethink that!
Thanks for the update. I am anxious to hear that all has been resolved and your are back underway.
