Brandy and wine in Oregon's state capital

This is the 6th stop of our trip of the summer. We have experienced a lot of different places, climates, cultures, and RV parks/campgrounds already. And we have learned a lot about our 5th wheel, truck, and camping. It sorta feels like a crash course in camping with a 5th wheel, but I love it. I feel like we are really getting our routines and responsibilities down and know how to communicate with each other when setting up and tearing down.

On this portion of our journey we stopped for 2 nights in Salem, Oregon to spend the fourth of July with my sister-in-law, Brandy. We stayed at Hee Hee Illahee RV Resort (which is another Good Sam RV park - we are definitely getting our money's worth on our membership there).

This is a relatively new RV park (built in 2006), so the trees are not mature, but the park is very nicely done, with plenty of room for large rigs and several amenities (pool, hot tub, workout room, laundry facilities, pool, ping pong, showers, etc.)  The park felt a little more like a "parking lot" than our other RV park experiences, but I think that once the trees mature, it will be really nice.
Our site - with no one on our right!
We were really lucky because we got spot #1 in the Eagle road which meant that we had an end spot in the corner of the park and NO neighbors.

The entire time we were there we did not get anybody else in our entire row, but even if we did, since we didn't have anyone else on our front side, we wouldn't have minded.

The sites are fairly close together, but the are very long and once those trees get a little mature it will feel more private

For this portion of our journey, we were spending time with Brandy, my sister in law. She has lived in Salem for about 6 years now and knows some of the super cool spots to visit. Salem seems like it has so much to offer, so it is always so much fun to spend time with her in her city so she can show it off to us. To start with, she took us to Andaluz, which is a great tapas bar. We had a lovely drink (I had a house made sangria!) and some excellent tapas.
Cheers!! Enjoying our drinks at Andaluz

After Andaluz, we went to Venti's Cafe. I have been amazed on this trip how just about everywhere we have gone to eat had vegetarian (and sometimes even vegan!) selections to choose from. You don't find that in rural Oklahoma. And Venti's was no exception. I got a spicy macaroni and cheese with tofu. It was really good!

After dinner we needed some simple groceries to help tide us over until a real grocery shopping trip. We went to a Plaid Pantry (even though the logo isn't PLAID!!) cause my husband and his sister have fond memories of going to them when they were kids. I have never been to one, but I have heard of them and even had a couple of travel plaid pantry mugs that my husband had "inherited" when we first started dating.

When we got back to our "home" and opened a few windows to let the late afternoon breeze cool the fiver down, we later found a couple of kitties who were loving the view and smells (of the garbage??).

Two kitties enjoying fresh air after being cooped up in the air conditioning in Roseburg where it was close to 100 each day

The next day (after our vet visit with Kora) Brandy took us to this amazing bistro, the Word of Mouth. It was really delicious!

After our late morning/early afternoon meal, we took a trip out to Witness Tree Vineyard

It is named after a historic witness tree that sits on the upper slopes of their vineyard. The wine was great (we bought a bottle of Pinot Blanc to share on the front porch).

After our wine tasting, we enjoyed a delicious 4th of July BBQ with some of Brandy's friends. It was really fun to meet my sister in law's friends. After that we returned to our fiver and sat outside to listen to music and to watch all the firework displays we could see from our patio.

On our last day, we went out to breakfast at a restaurant called the Sassy Onion. This probably was the best meal of our trip so far.

Brandy got this super amazing french toast. It was yummy!!

I got a smoked salmon, dill, cream cheese, and egg scramble that was simply to die for. I would love to be able to figure out how to make something like this! So good!!!
My smoked salmon egg scramble. This picture does not capture the pure awesomeness of this breakfast!

We had a great time in Salem - and luckily our kitty Kora will be just fine. It is fun that we can take the time to be able to spend time with Brandy in her town - normally we are super pressed for time and can't always spend time with her there. Now we are in Portland area for the annual family BBQ. We are looking forward to getting to see Jason's extended family!
